Train strikes unoccupied car in east Knoxville

A train struck an unoccupied car in east Knoxville early Monday morning.

Knoxville police responded to the crash near North Sixth Avenue and Abilene Place shortly before 2:45 a.m. Officers said no one was in the car at the time of the crash. Shortly after the incident, officers contracted the car's owner.

Police said they're still investigating the incident.

Zoo visitors Feast with the Beasts in Knoxville

(WBIR - Knoxville) Saturday night, visitors to the Knoxville Zoo got to wine and dine with some of the regulars at Feast With The Beasts.

For the 20th year, the event brought some of the area's best restaurants to sample some main dishes. There were also "watering holes" where local breweries and wineries offered drinks.

Hay shortage affects East TN farmers


(WBIR) Some East Tennessee hay farmers say it has been a tough year so far with less hay harvested off the fields compared to last year due to a dry and cold spring.

TVA bringing more power to the Tennessee Valley

Thirteen new miles of power lines will make electricity more reliable for a growing area.

TVA crews spent Tuesday installing the new transmission lines in east Knox County.

Each one will carry 161-thousand volts of electricity to a substation. From there, the electricity will go to power companies, and then on to homes and businesses.

TVA says the new lines will improve reliability and add increased capacity for the growing area.

KPD: Two hurt after a string of shootings in East Knoxville

(WBIR) A string of shootings injured two people in East Knoxville Wednesday night, according to Knoxville Police Department.

KPD said it started with a shots fired call in Austin Homes around 7:50 p.m. The suspects had already left and there were no apparent victims by the time officers arrived.

UPDATE: Man charged after Sunday Knoxville shooting


(WBIR) The Knoxville Police Department said a man wanted for a shooting this afternoon in East Knoxville is in custody.

KPD announced Sunday evening that Michael Smith, 34, turned himself in.

Smith has been charged with two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

His mug shot was not available as of Sunday night.

The male shooting victim was taken to UT Medical Center. His condition has yet to be released.

New Knox Co. high school gives students college experience


(WBIR-Knoxville) When Knox County students go back to school in August, a handful of ninth graders will be starting on a college campus.
