East Knoxville shooting sends one to hospital

Police are investigating after a shooting on Lilac Drive in Knoxville Saturday afternoon.

Knoxville Police responded to a shooting call on the 4000 block of Lilac Drive at 12:49 on Saturday.

Officers say there, they found 28-year-old Rickey Davenport who had been shot in the leg.

KPS says preliminary investigation reveals acquaintances of Davenport were involved in an "altercation" outside the home where the shots were fired, and one of the rounds hit the victim.

Teenager killed in drive-by shooting

One person is dead after a drive-by shooting in east Knoxville.

The suspects were driving a newer model silver or gray Acura. Authorities are looking for them now.

Multiple shots were fired from the vehicle as it drove down the street in the Walter P. Taylor homes neighborhood.

Dominique Johnson, 19, was hit and killed. Two vehicles parked along the street were also hit by gunfire.

Investigators are analyzing evidence and interviewing witnesses. The suspects are still on the run.

Austin-East celebrates academic success

Students, teachers and staff at Austin-East Magnet High School are celebrating their academic success.

Last month, the state released its list of focus schools, those with the largest achievement gaps.

Austin-East was no longer on that list, and it's no longer in jeopardy of being taken over by the state.

Police find stabbing suspect who was set on fire

Knoxville police said a suspect, who was set on fire after he apparently stabbed a man in east Knoxville, will face charges once he's released from the hospital.

Stanley Nimmons, 46, is accused of stabbing Christopher Kalna, 55, in his arm and torso at the victim's home on Wilson Road on Tuesday night. Kalna told police that Nimmons then stole his wallet, car keys and television. The victim followed Nimmons out of the house and threw a flammable liquid on the suspect and set him on fire. Nimmons managed to run away.
