Man guilty of killing pregnant girlfriend, unborn child

Friday afternoon, a Knox County jury found Brandon Scott Donaldson, 24, guilty of second degree murder in the death of his pregnant girlfriend, Marcia Crider.

The trial lasted five days. Donaldson was also convicted of second degree murder in the death of Crider's unborn child, and the attempted second degree murder of her mother, Pebbles Crider.

Donaldson is the first defendant convicted in KnoxCounty under a law that allows for the prosecution of defendants who murder a fetus, regardless of the viability of the unborn child. Under prior law, the fetus had to be viable in order sustain a charge for murder.

He faces a minimum of 18 years in prison. The state will request the maximum penalty allowed under the law, which is 72 years in prison. He will be sentenced on March 6th.

Previous story

Almost two years after a pregnant woman was shot to death, a jury will determine the fate of the man accused of killing her.

Currently, a jury is deliberating in the trial of 24-year-old Brandon Scott Donaldson, who is accused of shooting his girlfriend Marcia Crider.

She was 19-year-old when she died and 13 weeks pregnant.

Prosecutors claim Donaldson shot and killed Crider during an argument on February 13, 2013 on Porter Avenue in east Knoxville. Police said the couple was fighting when Crider's mother came to pick her up. Officers said Donaldson shot at the car and hit his girlfriend; she later died at the hospital.

After the crime, Donaldson left town, but U.S. Marshalls tracked him down at his brother's apartment in Rockford, Illinois a few days later.
