Deputies make two arrests connected to officer-involved shooting

(WBIR) Knox County deputies arrested two people possibly connected to an officer-involved shooting that sent a man to the hospital last weekend.

About four days after the shooting, deputies caught Allan Anthony Ownby, 38, and Mechelle Lynn Parton, 36, in a U-Haul truck towing an SUV out of the woods near 7200 Charlotte Drive in northeast Knox County.

Officials said Michael Paul Hicks, 38, drove that SUV when he tried to run over two deputies Sunday night. The deputies fired shots at the suspects as the SUV drove off, hitting Hicks his upper body.

Ownby was charged with tampering evidence and theft. He also faces several charges in Anderson County. His criminal history includes drug charges, forgery, and theft.

Parton was charged with accessories after the fact and tampering evidence. Her criminal history includes promoting the manufacturing of meth, theft and vandalism. She on parole for drug charges.

Shortly after the shooting, deputies found Hicks on Sanborn Avenue. Crews took Hicks to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.

Hicks was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder among other charges.
