Firefighters pull unconscious man from apartment blaze
Officials said Martin Francisco, 17, died Sunday morning after he was injured in an apartment fire Saturday evening. When firefighters arrived at the apartment complex at 2636 Wimpole Avenue Saturday evening, they saw thick smoke billowing from a broken window of a ground floor unit. Crews had break into the apartment to get inside, where they found Francisco lying unconscious near the front door.
Crews took Francisco to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he died Sunday morning. Francisco is the first person killed in a fire in the City of Knoxville in 2015.
Firefighters contained the damage to a back bedroom of the two-bedroom unit.
Officials are investigating what caused the fire.
