News

(WBIR) Knoxville police arrested one person Wednesday night after a vehicle caused a crash during an attempt to avoid a traffic stop.

KPD said officers tried to pull over a Chevy Trailblazer on Cherry street near Magnolia around 6:40 p.m. The vehicle immediately sped up and the officer chose to not follow them.

The suspect vehicle crashed into a pickup about half a mile away and wrecked into some bushes at Cherry Street and John Deere Drive.

Witnesses told police two or three men ran from the scene. Officers found an 18-year-old hiding under a truck near the scene. Authorities also found a stolen handgun and marijuana in the Trailblazer.

The suspect wouldn't tell officers anything about the incident. He was arrested for possession of a weapon, simple possession of marijuana, and leaving the scene of an accident.
