News

An armed suspect broke into an east Knoxville home, prompting the homeowner to fire at the intruder at least five times Friday morning.

Knoxville police said the home invasion happened at about 6 a.m. inside a house on Linden Avenue near Alice Street.

The residents said they were asleep when a crash woke them up. One of the homeowners picked up a handgun next to his bed. Seconds later, the homeowner saw the suspect with a handgun in the bedroom's doorway. The victim said he then fired at the suspect at least five times from his bed, and the intruder ran away.

Officials believe the suspect broke a rear window to get into the house. Authorities said several items were out of place.

Police said they're still investigating what happened.
