Traffic reopen on I-40 after accident
News

Traffic on Interstate 40 is back open after an accident shut down the eastbound lanes for an hour Tuesday night.

The accident happened just past Asheville Highway near mile marker 294.

Police say a passenger in a car heading East became upset Tuesday evening shortly after 6:00 p.m.

Investigators say the passenger threatened the driver of a silver Hyundai that he would jump out of the car. The passenger even opened the door while the car was moving.

Police say the driver pulled to the side of the interstate. The passenger got out of the car and ran onto the roadway. That's when, police say, a car hit him.

Emergency crews took the victim to UT Medical Center. They say they expect him to make a full recovery.

Police reopened the highway a little more than an hour after the accident.
