Knox County officers bring Christmas cheer to families
News

(WBIR - Knox County) Officers from the Knoxville Police Department and Knox County Sheriff's Office spread a little Christmas cheer Thursday night.

The Fraternal Order of Police hosted its annual "Shop with a Cop" event. Officers were given $100 to help pick out and buy presents for 360 children from families in need.

The event is personal for many of the officers; each family who goes on the shopping spree is nominated by the officers and deputies themselves.

"This is a chance for us to go back out and show them [the families] the human side of police officers. Show them hey, police officers, sheriff's deputies are people too," said Mark Taylor of the Fraternal Order of Police. "They care about you and wanna help. And it's rewarding to our guys because they can address issues that there maybe wasn't other means to address in the community."
