The Knoxville Track Club Walking Program

 

Knox Walks is a fitness walking program aimed at helping participants make a healthy lifestyle change through regular walking. If you are looking to walk with a group and add more activity to your day, then please join us for exercise and camaraderie. Participants are asked to commit to attending one group walk every week for 10 weeks. In return, walkers will receive weekly educational material on fitness and nutrition, a t-shirt, other goodies, and entry to the KTC EXPO 5-Mile Walk on May 25th.

Carter High School administrators walk on treadmills at lunch to inspire kids

Teachers and administrators at one Knox County high school are taking fitness to a whole new level.

About a month ago, administrators at Carter High School wanted to find a way to get fit. So, they received a grant and bought two treadmills.

They put the treadmills up in the cafeteria and each take turns walking on it for one of the three 25 minute lunch periods.

Also, they have asked those in the community to come walk and set a good example for the students. Ten News Reporter, Allison Bybee, walked on Tuesday.

The Knoxville Police Department will conduct a free child car seat checkpoint on today from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 917 E. Fifth Avenue.

According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), 80% of all child restraints are used incorrectly. 

During the KPD checkpoint, child car seats will be checked by a certified car seat technician.

The technicians will provide instructions and demonstrate the correct way to install your child's car seat.

RAM clinic provides free medical care to Knoxville-Area over weekend

Remote Area Medical is hosting a free clinic at the Jacob Building in Chilhowee Park over the weekend.

The event will offer dental services like cleanings along with eye exams. Health experts will also offer medical services like women's health exams and flu shots, to name a few. The clinics will mainly serve people without insurance, but organizers said the RAM clinic is open to everyone.

This February Goodwill Industries- Knoxville will partner with local dry cleaners throughout our 15 county service area to host a clothing drive. Participating dry cleaners will collect and dry clean gently used items donated by their patrons. These items will be given to Goodwill stores and resold in order to benefit Goodwill's job training and placement programs.
