Knox Co. spraying mosquitoes in West Nile positive communities
Health

Knox County Health Department crews will spray a record number of areas for mosquitoes within the next week to help fight the spread of West Nile Virus.

Nine out of 11 of the county's surveillance sites turned up mosquitoes that tested positive for West Niles.

Health officials emphasize that it's not unusual to find West Nile mosquitoes this time of year, but because of the high number, the department will add three more surveillance sites.

Spraying begins on Thursday night in the Fourth Avenue, Milligan Street, South Knox County, Gulf Park, Choto and Cumberland Estates communities.

On Sunday night, crews will spray in the East Governor John Sevier Highway, Kimberlin Heights and Halls communities.

The spraying will be done between 9 p.m. and midnight.

Health officials ask residents to stay inside during those times.
