Newly renovated Morningside Park opens to the public

A newly renovated park near Downtown Knoxville is now open. Mayor Madeline Rogero and parks and recreation officials celebrated the new look for Morningside Park with a ribbon cutting.

The park received a $250,000 donation from Pilot Flying J for the upgrade. The renovations include a new walkway, a renovated 18-hole disc golf course, accessible parking and the removal of dense brush.

Officials hope the changes will encourage the community to get out and enjoy the park.

Golfers hit the green to fight childhood cancer

Golfers hit the green to fight childhood cancer

Dozens of golfers hit the course at Fox Den Country Club to fight childhood cancer during the Annual Butterfly Fund of East Tennessee Golf Tournament.

Four years ago, a member of the 10News team lost his daughter to cancer. In honor of her memory and the memory of another little girl who died, the Butterfly Fund was founded.

Shahid Malik, a doctor from East Tennessee Children's Hospital, said this event raises money for cancer research and bring awareness to childhood cancer.

Angels of Hope helps cancer patients

Angels of Hope helps cancer patients

Hundreds of East Tennessee cancer patients benefit from a volunteer effort to help them around the holidays.

"This says love is all you need," reads a hand made pillow case.

Love motivated UT Medical Oncologist Dr. Susan Huntsinger to start a program to help the cancer patients she treats.

"To be able to do this for them and give them just that little bit of spark that little bit of hope is just a wonderful thing," she said.

She realized the holidays can be especially difficult for her patients.
