Vols beat NC State 35-21

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Tyler Bray completed 27-of-41 passes for 333
yards and threw for two touchdowns to lead Tennessee to a 35-21 win over North
Carolina State on Friday.

Cordarrelle Patterson hauled in six balls for 93 yards and caught a touchdown
and added another score with a 67-yard run. Zach Rogers caught a 72-yard
touchdown and Rajion Neal carried the ball 22 times for 53 yards and a
touchdown for the Volunteers (1-0), who posted a disappointing 5-7
record last season.

Police identify man stabbed to death in weekend murder

Knoxville police have identified the victim in a weekend murder.

Omar Eric Ramos-Sanchez, 24, was stabbed on E. 5th Ave. on Sunday night.

No arrests have been made, but investigators say they have identified a suspect.

It happened on E. 5th Ave. near Cruze St. last night around eleven.
Police say the call initially came in as an assault.

Knoxville police believe that a dispute over illegal drugs and money led to the death of a Knoxville man.

Roderick King, 32, was found dead Wednesday in an apartment on Magnolia Avenue in East Knoxville Wednesday evening.

It's the day Vol fans have been waiting for, the start of the 2012 football season.    

It's been a long offseason for the team having to dwell on a loss to Kentucky for the last eight months.

But today the Vols open up the season against NC State.

The arrived in Atlanta yesterday afternoon.

This is the first time in 73 years that the team has played a regular season game on a Friday.

The Vols will take on the Wolfpack tonight at the Georgia Dome at 7:30 p.m.

The game will be aired on ESPU-U.

Knox Co. learns about 21st century school initiatives

In Knox County, parents, teachers and community leaders learned how technology could be a tool for students' success in the classroom.

The Knox County Council PTA held its annual education forum in Downtown Knoxville on Thursday.

One of the speakers was the superintendent of a North Carolina school district. He talked about his district's "laptop initiative," which is equipping all of its students with laptops, interactive boards and iPads.

The superintendent said with the program, students are getting better grades and graduation rates are increasing.
